It was probably because of the California Dreams tour that it was more of the confectionary world, because everything I've seen for the last year has been like cotton-candy scented or huge peppermints or massive gummy bears.

For some reason, video and internet games have received a rap that they simply don't deserve. This could have happened for any number of reasons. Perhaps it occurred because video games, when they first emerged, simply rubbed against the grain of every cultural phenomenon prior. Perhaps it occurred because of a suspicion of a technology that is still so young and that we don't yet understand.

But one thing that can be said for certain is that games are not a bad thing, nor do they have to become a barrier between the various members of a family, as is commonly believed. In fact, video games can and frequently do bring families closer together.

One of the best things about video games with respect to the family is that it allows for a change of roles that can be very beneficial for a family. A very large amount of tension that grows in a family is from the way that roles are set in stone and never change. Why must the adults or parents always take responsibility for everything? And why is it that the children always must obey everything that there parents say? An internet game has the advantage of breaking up this monotony.

When people are involved in one of these games, for example, World of Warcraft, age gives no advantage, nor does it imply any greater amount of responsibility. Everybody is equally important and can share in the responsibility and rewards of success, which is excellent for relieving any pent-up tension.
This is very relevant to the next reason for why internet games are so good for improving family relationships: that they are great for building teamwork.

Video games tend to involve a lot of problem solving and also necessitate working in tandem, with good communication. And what is the biggest complaint in a family? That the communication is not good enough. A family could learn quite a lot about each other and how to work together just by playing internet games.

In fact, this can also work as a way for a family to communicate when they are apart. There are quite a few internet games that not only involve working in tandem to accomplish a common goal, but also allow for communication during this. A good example of this is Second Life. This is a video game, but it was originally designed with the sole purpose of facilitating communication. This would be a great way, for example, for college students to communicate with their parents, which can definitely improve family relationships.

And finally, video games are simply fun. A lot of the problems amongst family members occur because of built up stress that members of the family take out on each other. The best way to prevent these squabbles is to relieve that stress, and internet and video games can definitely do that. Wouldn't it be even better if members relieve that stress by playing games with each other? Internet games are definitely something that every family should investigate to improve their relationships.
