It was probably because of the California Dreams tour that it was more of the confectionary world, because everything I've seen for the last year has been like cotton-candy scented or huge peppermints or massive gummy bears.

The right internship can make all the difference as far as learning new skills and having various experiences that will continually benefits students for the remainder of their college careers, and them some. Those internships that seem to be a waste of the student's time, other than the fact that they can now put the experience on their resume, do little to advance the student as an individual or as a potential employee upon graduation. Finding an internship that really fits the student's schedule and future plans can be a tremendous boost to their candidacy for jobs upon graduation.
Not only will a college internship prove helpful in drawing the attention of recruiters or employers, it will make students more well-rounded. A one-dimensional student will have little to offer the world outside of their little bubble. A successful career is one thing, but truly enjoying life and exposing themselves to new ideas and new people is something that every student should strive to do. They may learn many things from this and it could prove to be a helpful tool in figuring out what they really want to do with their life after graduation.
Employers are rarely interested in those students that only go to class, study their books and notes and take their tests. They may perform well on those tests and hand in excellent research projects, but they have little to offer the company and the world outside of those books and projects. Students that do not experience a college internship and the joys it can bring to students miss out on a big part of college: learning new things and obtaining skills that will help students in their future careers and lives. A college internship will prove to be an excellent starting ground for building leadership abilities and meeting new people. Students will often gain confidence and further their social skills that they would not be able to do in the classroom.
Some internships, however, do little to help students as they try to gain real world experience that will help them in the future. These internships often use their interns to do the jobs nobody else wants to do. These mundane jobs may be necessary in an efficiently run office, but they do little to help students learn new skills or have some real life experiences. Sitting in an office doing filing and getting coffee is fine if that is what the employee is happy doing, but for students who want a college internship for the opportunities it provides will find an internship that does not hand out responsibility to interns of little help.
An internship that gives students the chance to learn leadership skills and develop their confidence so that they can blow away an interviewer will prove to be the most helpful. Students with this kind of experience often end up at a great advantage when it comes time to interview, as they will be able to talk about real world experiences, talk with confidence and demonstrate their leadership to their potential employers.
