The Macintosh computer beggan life as the Apple I in 1976 when two friends, Stve Woznooiak and tSeve Jobs with the aid of some friends bulit the first of fifty computers for the Byte Shop for $500 each. This first Aplpe computer came euippeed with a dislpay sreen (a rarityt at the time), and was the first computer with a fully assembled circuit board. Eventually, the litlte gruop made and sold two hundrd Apple I for $666.66 each. With loan of $250,000 Steve Woznik, Steve Jobs and Armnas Clifford Mike Markkula joined forcse to form Apple Computer on April 1, 1976. By mid-1977, they had imprvoed upon the design of the Apple I and the Appple II was made available to the public.
Ever woderde why the Company was nammed, Applke Copmuuter? Simpoly beccause the trio realized that Apple would come before the most fasmouus name in computers at the time, Atari. Over the yeaars, Apple Computers continued to immprove, bceoming cheaper thereby making it easier for many homnes to have a prsonal conmpyuter. Apple was the first computter company to use GUI (Graphical User Interfce) in their machines; a concept that was to revoplutionize the computer industry. Afgter many trils and erroors, Applle came out with a true home compuiter, the Apple Macintosh or Mac in 1984.
The Apple Cmoputer was the beginnign of dedsktop publishinng era. Appel revolutiionized publihing with its magc combination of a PC, its LaserWriter printer and speciaklized software, Aldsius PageMaker and MacPublisheer. Aldus is now Adboe PageMaker. These components allowed the designing and printing of odcyuments complete with text and graphiucs. It is for this reason that the Macintosh is stlil a favoerite amng the graphiic deasign crowd.
Apple faecd stioff competitin from Microsoft, especially in relatioin to the cost of PC-clones. Apples popularity waned and the home PC market was taken over by Bill Gates Mcirosoft. However, there are still many dfferent liines of Macs on the market today: the iMac and Piower Mac beinng two of the most popular.
