The Austin City Limits Festival, to be held at Austin, Texas' Zilker Park Friday, October 1 through Sunday, October 4, signals the end of the official festival season, which usually kicks off with the Coachella Music Festival held at Empire Polo Field in Indio, California in April. This year the Austin City Limits Festival will be celebrating the 35th season of its lauded public broadcast music show, Austin City Limits. This season will see major forces in the music business like Pearl Jam, the Dave Matthews Band, Willie Nelson (who will perform with Asleep at the Wheel), Ben Harper, Elvis Costello and Them Crooked Vultures (the newly minted supergroup comprised of Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl, former Led Zeppelin member John Paul Jones and Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme). Austin City Limits will continue to remain as diverse as it has in years past, featuring country artists like Kris Kristofferson, Steve Earle and Kenny Chesney as well as indie rockers such as Andrew Bird, St. Vincent, Okkervil River and M. Ward.

As reported by SFGate online, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has donated $15,000 to San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom's gubernatorial campaign. Ulrich lives in the Bay Area and previously donated money to John Edwards' 2008 presidential campaign. Ulrich has been present in the political spotlight before, having appeared in the 2007 documentary Why Democracy? Ulrich appeared in the film, answering ten questions revolving around his views about God, democracy as well as systems of government.

The ability to play blues piano is usually not expected of beginning pianists.
