This summer the National Weather Service reported historic flooding in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, as the rising river resources there caused 4,000 homes to be evacuated. A levee in Cedar Rapids was destroyed by the flood waters, though mostly the levees were simply rendered useless as the water rose over them.

Flood damage is not isolated to damages to a home and the items it contains. Floods can very much cause severe damage to vehicles, regardless of the size. Floods can sweep over cars, SUVs and even trucks, which makes water damage restoration close to impossible, particularly if the vehicles are submerged in floods for a very long time.

It was once said that crime never pays, but to the identity thief it can for a while anyway. This crime is linked to bank and financial fraud and can scam people out of thousands of dollars. In the beginning of the Internet, communication was not that widespread. It hampered criminal activity. Now that the Internet has grown into what it now is, it gives everyone the opportunity to reach a global market, including criminals.

We are being told on a daily basis it seems that we must protect our identity and keep our details secret and safe, well away from prying eyes. Cover the key pad when you enter your pin, shred your bank statements, never let your credit card out of your sight etcetera. Some people are cynical about the whole thing, especially as it seems that no matter what we do, the Government are likely to hand out our details to anyone on public transport. Is it all really a lot of media hype, is there really anything we can do to protect ourselves; will shredding our lives away really help, especially when so much of our lives are held in cyber space anyway.
